Amin took power in January 1971 after a coup; became President and Chief of the Armed Forces,Field Marshall in 1975 and finally President for Life in 1976.Tribal warfare killed 100-300,000 people during his eight year presidency which ended in April 1979 when Amin fled to Libya for sanctuary against invading Ugandan exiles and Tanzanian forces.
